10 Day FLT Instructor Course

This course is for experienced, trained operators who wish to progress to become lift truck instructors.

At the end of the course candidates will have acquired the necessary skills to undertake a practical and written examination administered by RTITB Services and be competent to carry out operator training.

The Course content includes:

Health and Safety Legislation

The role and responsibilities of the instructor

Planning, preparation and delivery of instruction courses, including the use of training aids

Practical role play of lesson plans

Operator examining techniques

The successful candidate will be eligible to apply for registration onto the National Register of Lift Truck Training Instructors, maintained by RTITB Services.

The minimum standard that is required for candidates to attempt the instructor course is the ability to pass a fork truck basic skills operating test with a high mark, to instructor standard, at the start of the course.

Applicants should also have at least six months recent practical experience of full time fork truck operation

and possess those qualities that are needed to be able to instruct.

Candidates who are not every day drivers of fork lift trucks are recommended to be submitted for an operator course immediately before they start on the instructor course.

It is essential that candidates are familiar with the following publications:

Code of Practice for Operated Lift Trucks (ACOP L. 117)
Safety in Working with Lift Trucks HS(G)6

Please Note: A requirement of RTITB Services is that all course entrants must have obtained an approved operators certificate within the last 12 months.

Should the certificate have been obtained more than 12 months ago, it would be necessary to be re-tested before attending the instructor course.

Course entrants must have a minimum of 6 months operating experience.
