Train to Gain is a national scheme aimed at giving employees the opportunity to gain their first Level 2 qualification. Train to Gain also gives participants the opportunity to improve their Numeracy and Literacy skills in order to take a National Test at either Level 1 or 2. Train to Gain is funded by the LSC and is fully supported by a Brokerage Service that can help your business access training to help improve your business in all areas/departments.

This NVQ is intended for employees that either currently work with LGV's or hope to do so through this training. NVQs can deliver the following business improvements:

  • Increased productivity, efficiency and profitability
  • Increased knowledge in role, company and product
  • Reduction in errors and mistakes and costly accidents
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Increased flexibility and decreased absences
  • Improved competitiveness in your market
  • Improved loyalty and retention

The trainee will first enrol onto the programme and complete a training needs analysis and initial assessment of their numeracy and literacy skills. The LGV driver will enrol on a fully funded Level 2 NVQ in Driving Goods Vehicles, NVQ assessments are carried out in the workplace and on the road so there is no lost time to the employer. NVQ Level 2 assessments to prove occupational competence take place at regular intervals at your convenience.

The programme is also open to employed individuals who have not already achieved their LGV licence and for those who want to upgrade their Class C licence to a Class C+E. However, in these cases employers will be asked to contribute towards training costs as Train to Gain funding does not cover legislative training. A discounted rate for LGV Cat C or C+E training is available to participants on the scheme.
