Learners undertaking NVQ programmes through the Train to Gain programme or wishing to begin are able to work towards Skills for Life goals which will be fully supported within their learning programme. Learners will undertake an individual Skills for Life programme leading towards the achievement of a Certificate in either Adult Literacy or Numeracy at level 1 or 2. These nationally recognised qualifications can help reassure staff that they are able to read and understand items such as health & safety information and responsibilities, taking orders and telephone messages correctly, as well as making accurate calculations - all valuable skills to help make sure your business runs more efficiently.

Skills for Life learning aims can be studied alongside the NVQ. For those learners who are assessed as needing more numeracy or literacy support and development in order to complete the NVQ, Skills for Life learning should take place before enrolment onto the NVQ programme.

Skills for Life learning is arranged to suit both the employer and the learner and can be delivered either on-site or external training centre. Learning will be arranged to suit the needs of learners and employers, not forgetting the needs of the business. This process is achievable through a combination of electronic and paper-based learning materials by fully qualified Skills for Life Tutors.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be:

  • Aged 19+
  • Fully employed (contracted)
  • Not already achieved a full Level 2 qualification
  • Not in possession of 5 or more GCSE's grade A-C
