Young Person's Guarantee - Work Focused Training
With the large number of young unemployed people who are competing against the rest of the unemployed work force, Hargreaves Training Services Ltd has an exciting programme aimed at giving them both the skills and experience to move into employment in the logistics, distribution and warehousing sectors.
We have willing and enthusiastic local young people (aged 18-24) who are undertaking a voluntary back-to-work programme and are looking to enter the logistics sector. Learners gain skills by undertaking RTITB licence acquisition on both counterbalance and reach fork lift trucks, and also a warehousing skills course which includes order picking, palleting and depalleting, shrink wrapping and banding, safe loading and unloading of vehicles, pallet/pump truck usage, basic first aid, manual handling and health and safety. All training is delivered by RTITB-accredited instructors.
Learners are then expected to gain experience via a work placement within the logistics and warehousing sector. Each placement can last up to 7 weeks. Learners have to undertake a minimum of 16 hours per week. Most companies are therefore taking 2 learners to fill a placement (one from Monday to Wednesday lunchtime, and the other from Wednesday afternoon to Friday). Learners are prepared to undertake all warehousing and associated tasks, working alongside existing staff. Some work placements involve work in the warehouse, helping to pick and prepare orders through loading and unloading of vehicles and going out as a driver's mate to help with deliveries.
Employers offering work placements are expected to treat the learners as their own staff (they should be covered by the employer's ELI), liaise with Hargreaves Training Services regarding any issues that arise, and participate in 3-weekly reviews of learners. Employers are also asked to countersign and fax the learner timesheets to Hargreaves at the end of each learner's weekly duties.
For employers, this is a great opportunity to get additional help in their organization, to either try out potential future employees or provide real-life experience to the learners. This inturn will increase the learners skills and kowledge of the work place helping them to find employment.
Hargreaves Training Services will reimburse the learners for their travel expenses at each review. There is no cost to the employer for any learners undertaking a work placement within their organization.
